Raley's stocks Food For Families holiday bags with own brand products

11/9/2015

Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, West Sacramento, Calif., said it has the goal of raising 3 million pounds of food to help local food banks meet the increased demand for food throughout Northern California and Nevada this holiday season with its 29th holiday bag drive.

As part of its Food For Families campaign, Raley’s will stock its holiday bags with a variety of fresh items such as a gallon of milk and carrots. Additionally, all items in the bags — except for the bananas — will be store brand products, a spokesperson told Store Brands magazine.

Customers can make donations through Dec. 31st at check stands in all Raley’s, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Sources stores or online or by texting. All donations will be more than doubled by Raley’s, the retailer said, with a $10 donation buying a bag of food worth more than $27.

Food For Families partners with 72 food banks throughout Northern California and Nevada to distribute food to feed individuals that are food insecure throughout the year. The program was established in 1986 and is unique in the United States in that Raley’s absorbs all administrative expenses ensuring that 100 percent of every donation goes toward feeding neighbors in need, the retailer said.

In 2014, over 2 million pounds of food was contributed which equated to more than 85,000 bags of food distributed to local food banks. To date, Food For Families has raised more than $33 million and donated more than 24 million pounds of food to fight hunger, Raley’s said.
