7-Eleven expands fresh offerings, ethnic selections

Influenced by the healthful eating trend, Irving, Texas-based 7-Eleven is testing the concept of having more grab-and-go fresh prepared food at certain store locations in Florida, according to an article posted Feb. 20 in the online edition of Convenience Store Decisions.

The chain has also introduced regionally tailored ethnic offerings in several states such as pandebono, a Colombian cheese bread, available in some Florida locales; kolaches, available in parts of Texas; and gluten-free food in New York.

“What we are finding is that a lot of our consumers are becoming more demanding, more discerning,” Anne Readhimer, 7-Eleven’s senior director of fresh food innovation, is quoted as saying. “They’re looking for higher quality items, freshness, differentiated products — not products you see everywhere else — as well as value. … And we know within the 7-Eleven context, the products we offer need to be convenient as well as suitable for eating on the go.”
