Wegmans debuts private brand semi-disposable dinnerware and flatware

On the Fresh Stories blog of Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets, Mary Ellen Burris, the retailer’s senior vice president, consumer affairs, announced that the retailer now offers customers semi-disposable heavyweight plastic dinnerware and flatware in a family-pack size. Said to be manufactured in the United States and stronger than paper plates, the dinnerware plates are all white and are “deep enough to hold food with sauces on the plate without any spills.”

The dinnerware and flatware are BPA-free and certified kosher. Additionally, customers could wash the dinnerware by hand, but it is not recommended that they put the plastic plates in the dishwasher or in the microwave, the retailer stated.
